The local ponds and smaller lakes can offer excellent opportunities for Bass and Crappie. Good electronics are vital for maximizing time, as they will show the exact depth of the fish. Lure with pink seem to be doing better right now. Casting swim baits on the flats will improve soon. Structures like the Cell, and Wolf Trap Light are also known attractors for the Spades. The Stripers are still hard to pinpoint in the lakes, as they are constantly on the move. Drum can be caught just about anywhere, but have been caught better near shoals, or from the surface, in large schools. Grass patterns are still productive on the Potomac River, but wood is becoming strong on some of the other tidal rivers, such as the James, and Chick. Shallow flats with grass are where many target these fish. The channel edges have been good for those trolling in the main river of the Rapp. U.S. hemp is the highest-quality, and using hemp grown in the United States supports the domestic agricultural economy. But they are coming up the coast. Surf and pier action has slowed, with continous catches of small Croaker, Sea Mullet, and Bluefish. Nasty weather days often produce the best results for the Smallmouth. They do not spawn successfully at Anna, but they go through the motions, so they are aggressive at this time. Amazing veiws and a favorite place of mine to relax in the area. Bottom fishing for the Reds slowed down a bit, but some are finding them schooled up, roaming near the surface. This setup of braid/mono is also what many use for Flounder, and Sheepshead. Folks are enjoying the Striper run into the rivers of Kerr. I ordered the Tree Hugger no cheese and it was really good. Some big Flounder can be expected, now that Sept. has arrived, and a 9 lber was just recently caught, along with several 6's. Fishing close to the pilings is good, but right now, many are fishing behind the islands, in the reduced current. They are strong fish, so quality tackle is greatly appreciated when doing battle.
